Biography
Ethan Segovia. A young artist from a small British city on the south of Spain known as Gibraltar, I grew up in a city of rich heritage and culture, this combined with my love to create got me drawing and painting at a very young age. During my later years of schooling is when I developed this hobby by exhibiting my work in local competitions and making it into a career choice by sharing my work with friends and family getting it to spread across Gibraltar's 32,000 population very quickly. Soon after I began creating commissions to show a professional standpoint to my viewers as well as focusing on developing my style and widening my creative knowledge of the art world. with the help of some teachers and family I am able to express my work on many social media sites and through this website. Artist Statement
At the beginning of my art journey I focused on creating studies based on certain characters from movies or TV shows that stood out for me. At a young age these superhero studies boosted my publicity within my generation. these studies slowly focused on portraying the character in a certain way. trying to express what makes them unique and special. This project combined with my determination of constant sketching lead me to look into the theme of identity, more specifically the idea of masks that we wear based on the circumstances we are in during that moment in time. my wide range of skills in using various artistic materials helped me to express certain aspects of my life that seemed to take control as well as showing the differences between each of these 'masks'.
My art now ranges from many themes focusing on many different concepts in order to keep challenging myself with new ideas and possibilities on how to create art and why. My passion is one of many others in this world but I strive to better works every year from a range of themes and materials to cover as many interests as possible, challenging myself to discover new options while still leaving time to work on the roots of my art and mastering my artistic practice on a daily basis.
